Happy Valentines Day!

Well it that's time of year again

when Bella & I sit at the dining room table

to make her class Valentines.

While it sometimes seems crazy to make them, when we could just go to the drug store a buy a few boxes (which we have certainly done in the past) the last few years we've had more fun making them .

Now this past Christmas, we did make these very cute molded chocolate hand-painted snowmen which was actually crazy , so for this sweet little holiday, we decided to go easy.
We started with the tags.

Since she wanted to do something cute for the girls,

we had to do something different for the boys

(got to use that cool moon face I love).

And yes, these were her Valentines...

Then for the "treat" we decided on the ever-so-easy white-chocolate dipped pretzel rods, which is more of a "spooning over" than "dipping" I guess :)

on with lots of pink and red sprinkles.

We LOVE sprinkles!

Art Walk at LOLO Boutique

Well I know I told a few of you at my recent shows that I might be doing a trunk show in Dec. for one of the sweet stores that so graciously sells my creations.

Well it just so happened that last week when I went to drop off a few new pieces for Lolo Boutique, Susan mentioned she had no artist for Fullerton's first Friday Art Walk. Fortuitous happenstance? Perhaps. Whatever it is, I happily accept the serendipity of this gift. So it's Bella Luna Arts, this Friday night at Lolo Boutique in downtown Fullerton.

In looking back through my posts, I realized that the last time I was featured at an Art Walk was actually last November so it's kind of perfect I think. As always, I'll have new things, but here's a few pics of the some goodies I've been crafting these days. These pieces are actually already living with their new owners (unless they were purchased for gifts)but you get the idea, for new things to come this Friday :)

A huge thank you to all those lovely people who stopped by to see me this past weekend at the Irvine Fine Arts Festival. It was a really crazy week for me and my family, and in spite of the rain Friday, and the chilly air on Saturday, it turned out to be a great weekend. I'm always so amazed and humbled by those of you that come out to see and support me. Thank you. You gift me with tremendous blessings, far greater than just sales. Don't get me wrong, the sales are wonderful and allow me to continue doing what I love to do, but the encouragement from those of you who just seem "to get it" means so very much to me.

Now a few of you asked about upcoming shows and the only other one I have scheduled for this season, is The Nutcracker in Brea. Check out my side bar for more info. if you'd like to stop by.
I'll be sure to have lots of new things, since I nearly sold out in Irvine.

Where to begin...

I tried to write a post or two this summer,

even saved one in " drafts."

Just never felt quite right

about just diving back in.

After being gone for so long, it's hard to know where to start. And of course the longer I'm gone the harder it becomes.

Do I stick with the "art stuff" or try and explain why I've been gone so long? Does it really matter? Probably not. But I'm here now, with two shows fast approaching and since the art and my life are so closely entertwined anyhow, we'll give it a go...

besides, today (or what is left of today) is Dia de los Muertos! and I'm sure my Milagra girls in heaven will be right here as they always are, whenever I need them.

So what have I been doing lately, besides working my day jobs, driving kids to sports practice and trying to help my Mom secure the purchase of the "short sale" house next
door? (Yep it's true!tremendously exciting, stressful, hopeful and even a little fun)

For the wee hours left in between these things known simply as "life", I'm getting ready for a show! Here's a few peaks at some new stuff.

Still working with lots of brass,

and as always the vintage components I love, but these multi-strand pieces have been really fun.

So this weekend I'll be at 29th annual Holiday Faire in Irvine on Friday Nov.4 from 5-9pm and Saturday the 5th from 9 a.m.-4p.m. (I've lalso isted it as an Event on my Bella Luna Arts Facebook page.)

With Lent over and Mother's Day fast approaching, I'm wondering... what shall I do to get my man to make another batch of these little darlings again? Oh, Red Velvet how I miss you. It's been much too long. Ok, I guess I really should be thinking of exercising and celery or something green to eat, but how fun is that????

Flea Market Finds

The Sunday before last, after an exhausting Sat. show the boy & I (and at the very last minute even my young girl) decided to get up before the sun and head out to the Long Beach Flea Market....unfortunately the guy he sooooo wanted to track down wasn't there because it was raining...whimp! Well we didn't stay for too long either, but before we left, my boy did manage to catch sight of this little treasure trove for his steampunk lov'in Mama! Yep once again, while I was looking at something else this is what HE finds hidden under a table!

Doesn't look like much much right...

But check out all the cool stuff inside! Each little drawer filled with watch parts, tiny tins, crystals, watch makers tools I can't begin to identify yet, and of course lots of dirt, but all so much fun!

Oh and here's the little carved find on the table that was soooo distracting me from the watch cabinet below. Had to buy these too... Ciao for now!

Sneak Peek for Sat.

Hey friends, been working like crazy trying to get ready for this Saturday's Brea Spring Boutique. Here's a peek at a few of the new goodies I'l be bringing. Beads on the Tree

Remember these?

Last June I wrote a post about these special beads.

These are my prayer beads from years ago, way back when I taught high school Religion. I probably don't need to re-write the post, but if you want the full story you can check it out here... :)Here's the short version...there was an activity I did each year, usually with the Seniors. Each student would create a set of prayer beads in quiet meditation and after a few class periods we'd have a small prayer service & blessing and would each trade beads. There by all ending up with a strand of 30 or so beads made up of the intentions and prayers of each person in our class. I rarely got around to stringing my own sets. These beads are part of a collection that has been waiting to be strung and placed somewhere very special...

Well Bella & I finally strung them on some thick waxed linen.

The other day after a long rain while the ground was still squishy we walked out under the still grey sky and found the perfect spot to hang these beads that have been squirreled away all these years. We said a little prayer together and hung them here.

I really think here is where they've always belonged.

Paper clay fun at Cindy's

Last week my sweet friend Cindy invited Bella and I to her little studio for an art date. We did this once before, this past Christmas and had sooooo much fun we couldn't wait to do it again.

Here's a few of the goodies the kids & I came up with...This one was created by Cindy our very talented hostess! Sorry for the terrible pictures I actually had forgotten my camera so we used one of our phones...not so great, but you get the idea. These three were made by Danny, Bella & I.

Again, crumby pics...and of course these guys have gone on to their new homes. But they sure were fun to make. And they really did look cuter in person. I did the with the big star on it's head, Danny did the happy Santa snowman in the middle and Bella did the one with the sweet blue fluff. (Which Grandma got for Christmas).

Bella even made this Cheery Cherry Soda guy on her own a few days later.

Not bad for a kid who's not yet reached double digits...

We're keeping him!

So we finally managed to squeeze in a few hours back at Cindy's this past Monday.

Been wanting to make a little baby for Mr. Moon.

Then I did a little something for Easter...

But even better than that, check out what Bella came up with. ( Under the gentle direction of Ms. Cindy :)

I'm not sure how time moves so quickly, but here we are in Feb. and finally I'm back to give my little blog some love...

First up is the Wishing Tree. Still standing strong so beautifully adorned with wispy pieces of faded Tibetian prayer flags, rain washed tags with prayer intentions hard to read now, in all their weathered beauty.

Since I last posted, there have been a few new additions But for tonight, this is the one I wanted most to share.

Here's a little update about a few upcoming shows...This coming Friday night I'm doing a wonderful Boutique with a few of my South Orange Ave. neighbors. We tried it last year and had such a great response we thought we'd try it again. If you get a chance and would like to stop by we'll have warm drinks & wine, hors'doeuvres and lots of great gifts to for your holiday shopping pleasure! More details are on the right sidebar.

Oh! and I found out that one of my neighbors is also a henna tattoo artist! I really know nothing about this beautiful art form but I've always wanted a little something on my hands and now I may get my chance! I can't wait.

Art Walk Tonight!

Happy Dia de los Muertos

We didn't ever really "celebrate" Dia de Los Muertos when I was a kid... but my kids today are much more aware of it and maybe even comforted by the idea that we have a special day to remember those people in our lives that we've loved and have gone on to be with God

Some years we go to the cemetary but this past week we just didn't make it. While there are so many loved ones we often think of, the person I think of most is my Grandma. She was such a powerful force of strength to our family and myself. As I thought about all she meant and gave to me growing up, I'll always be so grateful for her inspiration so, so long ago,

when she bought me my first tiny stash of Peruvian beads
from a little vendor in San Juan Capistrano, a small loving gesture that would eventually lead to the beginning
of what is now Bella Luna Arts. Thank you Grandma, I love you.

American Pickin'

So what have I been doing when I'm not working, but should be? Well, sneaking off to a Flea Market or perhaps off to a series of fantastic Saturday rainy day yard sales with my favorite boy...

You see my eldest(and I), have recently been quite enamored with this little show on the History channel called American Pickers. Now I know that's a weird name for a show that conjures up all sorts of strange, even gross images, or at least it did for me but it's pretty cool, check it out. He even considered being one of these guys for Halloween. I love it! Anyhow, we had us some good clean fun last weekend! Here's a few of our "picks" some from the Flea Market and some from yard sales the week before. This Happy Halloween guy is one of six from a vintage -looking tin garland I first saw in a Disneyland window display almost two months ago. I asked about purchasing it and was told it was only for "display" (since when does Disneyland have something only for display...) anyhow I saw them at this booth of vintage Disney stuff at the Long Beach Flea market when I asked the gal if it was for sale... she said Yes.Ten bucks!Very cute.

Next up was this gorgeous old St. Francis of Assisi statue.
My Mom has been searching for a St. Francis for her patio for quite a while now. She's looked in garden stores and all the usual fountain stores, but none of them seemed right. The coloring and the face is very important. :) So when we saw this in Long Beach we had to stop. He was just perfect. Pretty big too, almost 3ft. tall and 9 1/2" at the base, solid cement all the way through. I'm not actually sure how the boy and I managed to get Francis into my car, but we did. I won't tell you how much, just in case Mom reads this....but know it was a great deal for it's age and the quality. And just look at his sweet, sweet face. My Mom's gonna love him!

The day gifted us with lots of other small treasures along the way, but prepare to view my crown jewel of recent yard sale finds... the Leather Ottoman!Oh! and I'm obligated to mention that this was found at the last sale of our rainy Saturday, the one I didn't want to stop at, the one the boy pleaded for, saying "oh come on Mom, just one more..." so there it was hiding underneath this musty quilt on their driveway. The leather was firm, but supple and had lots of dirt and grime in the tooling , especially on the top where people either sat or propped up their feet. There seemed to be spilt milk or something on most sides and the bottom was stained wet from sitting outside in the rain/ mist for most of the morning. But I could tell this tooled all leather ottoman was beautiful and just needed to be cleaned up and loved again. I asked how much and the gal said $25.00, quick to follow her price with a firm "I don't want to sell it, but my husband hates it..." my hesitation came only from the fact I knew I had only $10.00 cash left. I asked her if she'd hold it for my ten $, while I went to get more. I gave her the ten, and we left for the ATM. As we got into the car Danny smiled at me knowing that it was his stopthat filled me glee. Staring at me with this"I told you so grin" I validated the boy's natural instinct of the hunt, with a "thank you" for making us stop. I spent the better part of that Saturday cleaning it. First I used an exacto knife to dig out the grime, dangerous I know, but I was careful and nothing else would work in the tiny crevices. Then I used a leather cleaner, dish soap and a toothbrush, leather cleaner again and finally, buffed with leather polish. It did take a long time....but I certainly think it was worth it. Oh! I almost forgot, stuffed inside the bottom of the stitching was this little tag... good "pick" huh!

Gliiterfest was Grand Again!

Wow, what a show! Once again the gals out did themselves! Sheryl and Diane of Whimzy in Tustin did a great job with Glitterfest. Even with the heat, what a cool show it was. I'm always amazed at the wonderful work and people that come together to make this show the amazing event it is. I don't do a ton of shows each year and more and more due to time constraints, working and family I need to be really selective about what shows I do choose to do. But this show is a love for a few reasons.

First, because it stretches me. Makes me want to be a better artist. Ok, I know I sound like a movie or something, but there it is. It's true. Second is simply those girls. Sheryl and Diane do such a great job making me and all the artists feel welcome, respected and appreciated for what ever it is we bring to this wildly successful event. And finally it's my lovely customers. Some I've seen many times before and some brand new to my little creations. But I can't tell you what an honor it is, for someone to like my work enough to want to actually buy it.

So thank you, thank you,

to all of my wonderful customers and friends

for your continuous support and encouragement.

I appreciate you more than you know.

Getting Ready For Glitterfest

Busy, busy week ahead, but oh so exciting! I'm starting a new job this week teaching again...yep it's true. Only this time it's art.

And just in time for Glitterfest! WooHoo! Am I feeling crazy? A little. Can't believe it's all really happening. But it's good and I feel so blessed. Anyhow, I'll certainly tell you more about the art job later. But now, let's talk Glitterfest! It's this Saturday 10-4 in Santa Ana CA and I'd love for you all to be there! For some of you it might be a bit of a drive so maybe you should leave now, if you get here early, you can stay at my house. Just so long as you don't mind the mess that used to be my living room... Or Oliver...So go on, get packing. California 's great this time of year. I 've been working on so many new things. Lots of stuff I've never done before. Here's a little peek...

First sculpting class

I'm not sure why, but sculpting faces has always been a bit intimidating to me. I've always wanted to try it but just thought it would be too hard. I've worked in ceramics, made lots of tiny polymer clay things for fun (tiny food items mostly :)but never really tried faces. Well this past Saturday changed that.

Sherry of Got Art?

I happened upon a post she wrote about a sculpting class she was taking called The Sandman. When I saw the sculpted images I recognized them immediately as the work of

Keely Reichman, a fantastic artist and friend I'd taken a few jewelry classes with years ago.The class she mentioned was being held in someones home only about 30 minutes away from my house! There was one spot left. On a complete whim, I decided to call and snatched the spot.

Now I didn't take as many pictures as I wanted to, but I did snap a few of my "Sandman Moon" guy in process. This is him before I added his mouth. Then what he looked like after his first coat of teal and lavender highlights. And finally, with his dark patina. I must say, I'm really happy with him. Working with paper clay was so forgiving and satisfying. And Keely is a patient and generous teacher. Thank you, thank you Keely for sharing your talent and designs with us! I loved it and can't wait to try it again!

This whimsical little crew is part of a collection I believe will be for sale at Keely's upcoming show next month in Fullerton. Every first Friday downtown Fullerton sponsors Artwalk where all sorts of shops feature various artists in their stores. It's a lot of fun. On Oct. 1st the Friday night before Glitterfest, Keely will be at Otto.If I can get myself together the night before my little show I'll be there too! Check it out if you get the chance.

A Lighter side of Yellow (part II)

So yes, today was more yellow...but in the most beautiful way yellow can be. As I gazed through the photos I posted yesterday, I thought today about how each yellow moment carried with it a truth for why that picture was taken in the first place. A story the picture was able to tell about a moment of joy or laughter, wonder or remembrance. So as a sort of part 2 of that post I thought that tonight I could give you a little more about the truth and beauty of a few of them.

This first one with the daisy was taken by my
12 yr old son , who was 11 at the time. We were at the Fullerton Arboretum a place the kids & I go often. He had my camera and took an amazing set of flower shots, this one was one of his happy mistakes. He was so proud when I asked his permission to use his work.

Finneus had just enjoyed a romp in the Big Sur River with my kids and their cousin. He then then proceeded to shake, roll in the dirt and repeat. Good times indeed. :)

The Banana slug was fabulous! I'd never seen a banana slug up close and in person. This guy was at least seven inches long! It was so wild looking, with it's black spots contrasting against it's beautiful textured yellow. He was a lot brighter in person, as often we all are. :)

I think I've mentioned this Lemon cake before. I made that one for my Mom's B-day. I feel so blessed to have her.

He also made me the wonderful breakfast of bacon and poached eggs.

I love them both.

Again on our way either to or from Healdsburg, I noticed the piggy crossing sign. Everyone in the car cracked up when we saw it, so my husband turned back around so I could get a quick pict. Still came out a bit blurry, but you get the idea. Loved that it showed a Mama pig and her baby. Someone added the red dot, I like it, reminds me of Christmas!

I absolutely love this artist. We saw this painting by Alma -Tadema at the Getty about a week ago. Talk about an overwhelming sense of truth and beauty...I almost always sort of loose it a little at museums. It's that too much, too good feeling that sends me reeling, almost unable to focus. This day was no different but I loved it.

This a picture of a a picture of my BFF Annie and her husband who live far, far away from me. I miss her terribly, but this picture reminds me of our last visit together a few years back. I took it the day before I left. The little Mexican dolls remind me of another wonderful time we shared with our families all together in Mexico, eating grilled lobster and drinking beer perched up on the roof over looking the ocean.

So I guess yellow's not that bad after all. Thanks again, for sticking with me through this, I'll post some art stuff soon, I promise. :)

Yellow has never been my favorite color. Don't get me wrong, I do like it, it's just too bright and happy for me sometimes, but I think I need some bright and happy today,

because I feel...

prickly

and tired

unable to fly as I wish.

I think I need to visit the ocean.

Or the trees

Or see people I miss...

Maybe, buy more beads? (just kidding)

But instead I just glide along...

Looking for something pretty to eat.

And well...the results are obvious.

But I have....

that not all is lost

And tomorrow will be more...

Back again, from a long time gone...

Well, it's been forever since I last posted, and so much has happened...some with my art, much with my family, and many things that certainly intersect between the two. It's hard to figure out where to begin, so I think I'll just go back to where my last post left off and hopefully at some point we'll catch up...to what's going on today... or not, we'll see I suppose :)

In my last post I mentioned I was going to the Welburn Gourd Festival in Fallbrook Ca. Well I did go, and what a tremendous experience it was!

Not only was my friend Barbara Hallman's gourd work fantastic as always, selling like crazy, the day in general was just beautiful. It can sometimes be pretty hot and dusty there, but the weather was
mild, the energy relaxed and I found loads of beautiful gourds to work with this Fall. Is she not amazing?

She makes these huge animal masks, but this was a set of

small ones I loved. Check out their sweet eyes.

Danny loved these little fish she made!

Another wonder of the day was a chance meeting with the wonderful artist that taught me knottless netting so many years ago! Leigh Adams is as cool as I remember. I think it's easily been over 11 years ago that I took her class. Here's the little creation I proudly brought home that day. Notice those lovely uneven hitches, sagging off the bottom?( and that's actually it's 'good' side:) Eeeek!
But I sooo loved it then, and I still do today.
Today Leigh is the artist in residence at the Los Angeles Arboretum and has done some absolutely fantastic work in sculpture, mosaic and glass. She told me a little bit about a fairly recent work I can't wait to see in person known as the serpent trail. This gigantic glass tiled"Dream snake" sculpture created for the children's garden at the LA Arboretum is actually, visible from the sky! If you get the chance you've got to check out her work.

So now after all these years of knottless netting myself, I'm back to teaching as well. My class this past July at my sweet store Gilding the Lily in Fullerton was great. (It's been such a blessing to be able to "work" there on Sundays surrounded by a constant flow of beauty and inspiration thank you Nancy!) My students were so fun and so talented!

Teaching at Gilding the Lily!

Well, at the encouragement of family, and many sweet friends like you :) I'm getting back to teaching. I'm so excited! This July 17th I'll be teaching a new class called a Fairy's Haven, at Gilding the Lily in Fullerton and we already have sign-ups! I'm hoping to fill the class, which I 'm thinking should only be about 7-8 students. I'll talk about how to safely deal with the tiny African peyote gourds I love to use, I'll share my knot-less netting, various other cold connection techniques and more.

It should be lots of fun. My goal is that everyone goes home with a finished piece all their own. I'm working on collecting supplies for my little kits and am taking a trip out to the Welburn Gourd Festival in Fallbrook this weekend for another stash of the unique little gourd beauties. The hunt for just the right ones are always such a big part of the fun. Oh that reminds me! If you happen to be going this weekend to the festival you have to check out my dear friend Barbara. She's a multi-talented artist, who does some fantastic work with gourds.Here's just a couple of my personal little pieces, but to really see her work check out her blog, she paints, sculpts and carves and will be offering her highly collectible, award winning wares this weekend at the Welburn Festival and did I mention that she just finished recording her first CD? Yep, she's good... :) Stop by her blog if you get a chance. Well I better be going, I've got some shortbread cookies in the oven screaming to be dunked in some leftover ganche. Prayer Beads Past

As many of you already know, years ago, in what seems like another life, I was a high school Religion teacher. I adored that job and my students. Even though my subjects were often Church History, Morality or Social Justice I usually was always able to sneak in a fair amount of “Art”… just couldn’t help it. One of my favorite classes was an elective class I was able to teach on Prayer. For one of our lessons I talked about how in many cultures and religions some form of prayer or meditation beads are often used. After studying a number of these various religions and cultures, I thought it would be fun to have the class make our own strand of prayer beads. I gave each student a block of clay and split each block into four sections, so they could trade colors with a few others if they wanted to. We had about 30 girls in class so each student created about 30 similar beads. I dimmed the lights, played soft music and had them create in silence. I asked them to think about what intentions they might add to each bead as it was created. Their work and quiet meditation was amazing. After at least two class periods their beads were complete, I brought the trays and trays of miniature works of art to the Home Ec. Kitchen and baked them (this was of course before I knew you were NEVER supposed to bake polymer in your regular oven!)After they were done we had a beautiful prayer service in the Chapel, where each girl traded one of her beads with everyone else in class, we then knotted and strung them on waxed linen cord. Every student had a strand of prayer beads from her Senior religion class. It was really cool. As I thought about teaching again, I was reminded of the small silver tin

I used to keep my own prayer beads in. As the teacher I never really was able to complete my own strand for some reason.

Aren’t they pretty? I think maybe now after all these years, these beads deserve to be strung and placed somewhere special.

Every now and then I decide I need some "new"which often ends up being some"old" craft-object inspiration. Often times when I do, my compulsion to acquire every last one in existence seems to take over. Yes, it happened with my teeny,tiny Charlottes, which inspired my Querido pendants, my slew of empty watch cases which became and still do become my tiny watch case collages,

and now there's these very cool vintage skelton keys...any ideas? I've got a few... :)

After the Glitter is Gone...

Well, is Glitter actually ever really gone? I think not. It's still sprinkled along the hearth, certainly in the carpet and even outside on the Wishing Tree... but that's another story. Once again Glitterfest was such fun and I'm so grateful for all the wonderful artists that surrounded me and the fabulous people who stopped by my booth! I finally got to see the very talented Sherry from Got Art and thank her in person for the lovely tree collage she sent me. and my sweet friend Lisa from Vintage Bling who nearly sold out of her fabulous Bling Babies! You've got to check these out.

Now this week, amid the wind down for my kids at school, and attempting to get my house back to a pre-Glitterfest state of less confusion (who am I kidding) I made just one little stop by the Goodwill around the corner from my house and found some very cool props for Glitterfest Fall and beyond! Just thought I'd share a bit of my haul! I LOVE this old little chair, which I may have to fight Bella for...Mr. Owl is fantastic, my big splurge at $9.99 that I just couldn't resist . And then there's these brand spankin' new beaded thongs... that match my new turquoise painted toes just perfectly! Of course there was more, but we'll have to save that for later :)

Wow, I can't Imagine it's been a whole month since my last post. I'd like say I've been furiously busy with all sorts of "fun" stuff to share with all of you, or keeping up with all the wonderful new growth on our Wishing tree, but unfortunately that's not exactly been the case. My Mom was very sick and needed care after spending over a week in the hospital, I had huge commitments at school, and life just seemed to plow on. Thankfully my Mom is healing now, my commitments at school lessened and creativity abounds once again! Can't believe Glitterfest is next week! My little studio area has crept over a good portion of my living room floor but my family is patient and loves me. Here's what I mean...Quite a while ago I got a beautiful "Random Act of Kindness" in the mail from the lovely and generous Sherry from Got Art. I kept wanting to do a post just for her because her package came at a time when I really needed it. Blessings are like that. :) Thank you so much Sherry. Your beautiful Tree collage has a special place on my wall right next to our front door so I see it last,whenever I leave or first when I return home. The colors and textures are so perfect, but my photos certainly do not do the piece justice. Such a thing of sweet beauty and kindness sent to me completely out of the blue! How sweet is that Sherry.

And of the Pasta Maker...it arrived! Thank you, thank you Cheryl! I'm so excited. The quality looks great and I see ravioli in our near future :)When I finally get back to cooking for fun, I'll post a yummy pic. But for now, I better get my Glitter on!

I WON a Pasta Maker!!!

I know that sounds funny. It's just that dorky me didn't even know I had entered a giveaway. But I did and I won! Here's what happened. A few weeks ago, I was reading the blog of one of my new blogging friends Cheryl. She has a wonderful blog called Healing Woman and had sent me the beautiful Dreamcatcher for the Wishing tree I wrote about, in my last post. Well, she wrote this very detailed, yummy recipe post about this fantastic lasagna. Homemade noodles, roasted tomatoes, she even had the recipe for making the ricotta, the whole nine yards! Now I know that for those of you that don't know me in my "real" everyday life you may not know that I cook. But I do and so does my creative husband Ernie.

Things for Spring and the Wishing Tree

I am blessed, thankful, encouraged and inspired by all the wonderful people that stopped by my little space this past weekend in Brea. It was wonderful to see so many loyal customers and friends. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for supporting and encouraging me to continue to do something I love.

Here's a few pics of some pieces I took to the show, some have gone on to their new homes, some I'll try to get on Etsy, or take to The Little Dress Shop. Or maybe you'll see them at Glitterfest. I've played with the idea of another show for April, we'll see. I'll let you know...

As always after a show, I was completely exhausted, but the one thing I couldn't wait to do with my family on this particular Saturday was hang this beautiful new piece I received from Roanoke, VA for the Wishing Tree.

We sat at the dining room table, unwrapped the package and I read the note aloud. We were silent. My daughter was the first to speak. "We need to pray for her" she said. After it was up in the tree, we took a few minutes to gaze up at all our wishes so far. I am so honored and peaceful about what we've been entrusted with. The lovely dreamcatcher was crafted by the very talented and inspiring Cheryl Dolby and her daughter Kelli just for our tree. Thank you Cheryl and Kelli. Thank you both, for participating and know how honored we are to have added your intention to our prayers. :)

I'm working on a watch case dioramas again. I've done some cool custom orders as well.

This sweet little Querido Charlotte piece was sent far away to Annie, but lots of her friends will be at my next show this Saturday in Brea March 21st! Stop by and see them if you get a chance! You can see the flyer on my side bar for more info.

Even though this little flower is invisable from the front of the piece, I like that the person wearing it looks down and is the only one who can see it! A secret little detail... I'm playing with the idea of adding something like this on more of my pieces. :)

New things on the Wishing Tree

My husband doesn’t really ask much of our tree. The giant old ocean rod secured with fishing line to its trunk is his main contribution as is his silent belief in its strength and power for good. He helps me care for it, gently pruning or weeding and of course is my main go-to guy when I want something hung in just that spot I can’t reach. When he asked me to make a tag for a friend of his I knew it was important. While I won’t get into why or what we are specifically praying for, if you get a chance and might feel like sending some prayers or positive energy her way, please do so for Kerry. Thank you so :)

Yesterday I went out to visit the Wishing tree and Anna. I haven’t told you about Anna.

She’s our little apple tree that stands small and firm up on the back lawn. She’s almost directly behind the Wishing tree. She may have even been in the background of a few photos of the Wishing tree… anyhow her blossoms are soooo pretty now I just had to let you see.

3rd Grade Masters

One of the things I love doing, is volunteering to teach a bit of art once a month in my children's class through a parent volunteer based program called Art Masters. Every year we have a fundraiser at my children’s school where the kids design a piece of art that is sent in to a company that places their artwork on mugs, stationary, aprons, all sorts of stuff. The parents can purchase whatever they’d like with their child’s artwork on it and the school receives a percentage which goes back into purchasing supplies to keep our art program going. With that said, we're always trying to find beautiful, simple projects the parents would love and thus want to buy. (Which isn't as easy it sounds) :) This year with the severe budget cuts facing our California schools parent support of programs like this is all the more needed if art in our school is to survive at all next year. I’m not sure if everyone will love how they turned out, but I sure did.

For this project I used a lesson plan that came from the Crayola website which is a wonderful site if you ever need some fun kid projects for class or home and most of them are really inexpensive to produce. I just loved how this years work in 3rd came out. We used oil pastels for the image in each square and then watercolors for the background. I also did a similar lesson in my son's 6th grade. I'll let you decide which is which...

One World One Heart Give Away Winner!

Before it gets too late I need to announce who won my Querido Frozen Charlotte pendant in the One World One Heart blogging event that ended this evening. It's been great fun flying around, getting to know a little bit about other bloggers I may have never met had I not hopped on this magic carpet, and it's been even more overwhelming to see the tremendous response to my little Querido pendant. So here’s how I chose the winner... I had a bunch of these adorable “Wish” tickets I purchased a while back to use with our Wishing tree. Knowing that our tree would undoubtedly have fabulous "random choosing" mojo, I decided to hang both the hat and the tickets in the Wishing tree before any choosing actually took place. I decided that the first number on my first roll would stand for the #1. Then I had my daughter and her two little friends separate all the tickets on the roll while they were outside playing. After the girls had carefully separated them, we put all the tickets in one of my daughters many hats.

I thought her blue Luna beret was only fitting. I gave the tickets a few good swirls with my hand to mix them all up and let my daughter pick one! She chose # 885262 which matched up to be comment number 62! Jennifer from Just Jingle was the lucky gal! Check out her blog she’s got some wonderfully fun stuff there! When I emailed her for her address her response was just as I hoped it would be! I was so happy, she was so happy! I knew our tree would help choose someone right. Now my little "beloved" had found a happy new home, a place where she'd be loved. So I'm off to get her ready to send and maybe even create a few more sisters to travel around on a little carpet of their own...we'll see. Ciao for now!

More Rain

The rain was back today, all day. And while I'm not at all opposed, in fact I really love the rain. It did thwart my plans for a few new additions to the Wishing Tree... one thing I can't wait to place is this absolutely gorgeous ornament from Lisa at Pearl Avenue Studios in Maryland. She does some really amazing work. I love the little personalities that come through her sculpted faces.(Great blog too :) If you get a chance check them out, they're precious. So tomorrow rain or shine, mud or sludge, this beautiful little work of art is going on the tree. The picture doesn't really do it justice at all, but I'll take one in the morning out on the tree for all of you to see. Thank you, thank you Lisa. I'm honored.

The Little Dress Shop

I spent the afternoon at The Little Dress Shop in Claremont Village. It's a kind of magical place...where customers and friends drift in and out all day. They come to shop or maybe stop by in search of something more, a blessing, a hug or even a song from the deeply spiritual owner Marsha Valencia. Today was no different except that it was me that received the three things. The blessing came in a different way this time. I went to bring in a few new pieces and rework my case. While I tinkered and fussed over my jewelry, a sick friend of Marsha's walked in with her Mom. As they talked, Marsha began the ritual I'd seen before. She lit a small twine wrapped bunch of sage and cleansed the air surrounding her friend. Gently she brushed her friends body with feathers and sang a melodic and beautiful Native American chant. The strength of her voice filled the shop. As she sang I thought of something another friend had generously offered me. For most of time I wasn't even watching what Marsha was doing but only listening and it was her song that so touched me as I worked and thought. While this blessing was not specifically for me this time, I could feel the peace of it as the song permeated the little shop and me. It's funny sometimes to see strangers walk in and wonder what's going on. I first notice their nose. They just barely lift their head to sniff the air trying to figure out exactly what it is they smell. Since my case is pretty close to the front of the store, whenever I'm there I assure them it's not what they might think... and tell them it's just "sage." Some people are intrigued, and bravely wander deeper in, others seem perplexed, while some just drift out like the sage. When Marsha finished with her friend we had a chance to talk while I finished my display. I told her about something I'd been struggling with and I decided tonight, after a good deal of introspection that really love was often about just deciding to do it, even when you think you can't. I remember reading this way back in high school and being so awed by this idea. I must have forgotten...it sounds so simple in a way and I know it's really not, but tonight I'll will allow it to be. I've decided it must be. I had made a choice for it to be. And it will. I apologize if this sounds scattered but I'm still working it through. Thank you Annie.

Meeting the Crafty Chica!

While I'm usually not a "starstruck" type gal, (minus that one time at El Floradita in Hollywood when Mr. McConaughey sang Happy Birthday to me :) today was a quite an exception... On a bit of a whim I decided to head out with a friend to the CHA show in Anaheim. We were supposed to go last night, but between the lightening and hail, decided to postpone till today. I'm sooo glad we did. It was a fun show with lots of great stuff to check out, and many glorious finds, but the best part of all was seeing and then meeting in person, The Crafty Chica herself!!! As I approached her crowded booth I couldn't believe it was her. Over the years I've encountered some really talented artists who's work I admire for various reasons on all sorts of different levels. Some have become friends, and others pure inspiration for a season. It's all good. There's something a little different about Kathy Cano-Murillo. It's not just the crafting stuff, I think it's more about living that "artful life" I keep hearing so much about. And maybe because she seems to live that life with a Latina flair, it resonates with me. After all, it was she who ignited my whole Wishing Tree flame, not to mention the countless other fun and funky crafting tips I've gleaned from her blog and website. What a delightful soul to meet so warm, friendly and gracious, so down to earth. I just hope I didn't scare her too much with my blubbering non-stop chatter and questions. Sorry Ms.Chica, it was just lovely to meet you! Oh! and did I forget to mention I even got to see the original Queen of craft TV?... yes it was Carol Duvall!!! Now I haven't seen her in person since, well you know... Episode CDS-1146! I reminded her I'd been on waaaay back when, but she didn't remember, she was so sweet. Guess there's no Emmy in my future for that 12 1/2 min. but feel free to click on the link to get my step by step instructions for creating a mini gourd necklace if you'd like :)

Anyhow it was a very fun little day not to mention on my return there was a small envelope waiting for me from someone I'd never met! More about that later! Adios for now,

Thanks to the Three Kings

Right before Christmas I wanted so much to write a post…a post about Christmas, about the fun, the family, the friends and the great food shared during this very special season. I was bummed because Christmas came and went and I never really finished the post I had started. A few nights ago at mass, I was reminded that the Christmas season really continues up until Jan. 6th for the arrival of the three kings. Thank goodness for those three guys or this post may have gone the way of my many other “drafts.” Therefore feeling like I still had time, I thought I’d go ahead and write a little something of Christmas. Really, of my Christmas Tree…

My very first Christmas tree after I got married was not a tree at all, it was an Aloe Vera plant. I know it’s weird, but we didn’t have a lot of money and my husband was allergic to live trees. We had planned to get a really nice “fake” one after Christmas. Anyhow, we’d only been married four months and one of the things my Grandma made sure I had “packed” when I left the Valley was a good sized terra cotta potted Aloe plant. There are a number of reasons it just had to make the trek with us, mostly surrounding it’s powerful healing capabilities, and sharp thorns able to deter any would be burglar from hopping over my apartment balcony, but really it was just one of those things I did because she told me to. We brought it in, draped a few strands of red beads I’d bought at Pier One and dangled the three or four “ornaments” I found around the apartment. It was actually pretty cute.

What ever happened to that aloe plant? Well it traveled with us to each new place we moved and eventually got transplanted in the ground out in the backyard under the fig tree. Yes, right under what it now my “Wishing tree, a Christmas tree of sorts. I think there is something special about what lies beneath that tree and the healing powers of that plant I believe to be so deeply rooted in its soil.

I’m not sure how but I know it was no mistake that these two pieces of nature have collided here in my yard. There are many baby aloes that have volunteered surrounding the base of nearly the entire tree. I’ve kept a little square freed of the volunteers directly beneath it, as well as the path that leads up to it, but to its left the ground is completely covered with them. So as a little homage to that first Christmas, tree and to our Wishing Tree of today as well, I decided to decorate a few it’s “branches” again with some of those same red beads I used that first Christmas so long ago.

As we enter this New Year…I invite any of you out there who might have something they would like us pray or wish for, to feel free to send me something to hang in our tree. It can be anything, a tag, a little ornament, a ribbon, or banner. I guess really anything you’d like. Just keep in mind that it will be out in the weather and will be open to the elements. I have a few wishes that have been laminated that are doing fine and lots of other little things that are weathering nicely as well. I’m not sure why I’m so taken with this tree thing, but I think there’s a reason, so I’m doing it and I invite any of you out there who’d like to be a part of it to do so to. I know it’s kind of crazy, but it’s a good crazy I think.

And just as what lies beneath our feet can be holy and healing so can that which we choose to let dangle in the wind, like the ancient Tibetan prayer flags. While I can make no promises and hope you won’t yourself expect too much from me or my tree, what I can offer is this small space where many thoughts can come together for the power of good. I guess it’s that simple. It’s probably not for everyone but if you’re reading this hopefully it speaks to you. I’ll try to do better with posting to keep up on its overall progress as well. Here’s a few pics of what it looks like now in winter. Well as many of you already know, I've recently been quite compelled to create with my new found stash of Frozen Charlottes. I wrote up a little something to give people when they buy one of my Rescued Charlotte pieces, but it's probably a bit too long, so I've decided to post it here!

Mis Queridos or “My Beloveds”
It’s no wonder with my love for tiny objects, dioramas, lockets and little things to put things in that I should be so attracted to these little dolls. After all, one does need little things to place in the little spaces she creates doesn’t she?
Manufactured in Germany from about 1850 to the early 1900s, these intriguing bisque/china/porcelain dolls were originally produced as Victorian Bathing Dolls called “Frozen Charlottes”; so named from an early American folk song by William Carter. Carter tells a sad story of a piercingly cold night, with the lovely Charlotte being picked up in a sleigh by her beau ready to attend the village ball. Looking lovely, young Charlotte dressed in her finery, vainly wanted to be seen and admired along the way, and did not heed her mother’s good advice to cover herself with a blanket, refusing to wear even her wrap. By the time she and her beau arrived at the ball, Charlotte had frozen to death. ( I know it's a wee bit dark but that's the story) :)
On a lighter note, in early Victorian days these sweet little dolls were also baked into children’s birthday cakes, or Christmas pudding to be found by the young guest as they bit into their piece of cake. Nothing like pies and cakes to lighten the mood!And...Quite a little party favor!

Today these rare little collectables are used in all sorts of mixed media art, but the tiny ones are among the most coveted. Remember they’re over 100 years old! Here I have assembled some of my smallest most treasured Charlottes into a series of collage pendants, charms and pins called Mis Queridos or “My Beloveds”. Each small vignette tells a story of her own for the holder to discover. Using vintage findings and found objects gives each piece an innate sense of history. Some pieces contain words or symbols, but all carry with her a unique charism. My hope is that you enjoy your rescued Charlotte creation as much as I enjoyed making it for you

Update on the Wishing Tree...

While I certainly don't go out there and just "sit" nearly as much as I dreamed of, our "Wishing Tree" remains a relaxing and beautiful destination in the yard for myself and my family. Each member has added a little something of their own and I've even received a few things from far,far away. My Mom found this wonderful beaded mobile this summer in a fantastic little gallery in Big Sur. The one with the people nests lined with sari-like quilts and colorful pillows.I meant to write a post just about these nests but didn't, so here's a couple of photos so you know what I mean. I loved these things!Another wish was sent in a jar with sand and seashells from my sweet Annie's, Atlantic coast.
This past weekend I did the Irvine Fine Arts Holiday Faire and met some of the coolest ladies. As I spoke to them about my work and my current obsession with my tiny frozen Charlotte's (which I will write about next) I found myself going back to our tree.I described how it's become a sort of wishing/prayer/reflection/art spot for us and of my desire to make this a sort of visual symbol that reminds us of things to pray or wish for. I only wish I would have asked them to send a wish...anyhow, it's late and I'm not completely sure I'm making sense, I just wanted to say a little something so you know I didn't forget...

Oh! And for those of you I haven't told, myself and a few other gals are doing a little Holiday Boutique this Friday the 13th right in my neighborhood. I posted it as an event on my Bella Luna Arts Facebook page but here's a few particulars as well. It's at 539 S. Orange Ave. Brea from 6:00-9:00pm.We'll have wine,hors d'oeuvres LOTs of festive twinkling lights and shopping what could be better! Stop by if you get a chance, it should be fun. Ciao for now!

Glitterfest was Grand!!!

As usual the Glitterfest Girls of Whimzy!did a bang up job with their fantastic show this past Sat. It’s always such an honor to be in the company of such wildly creative people. They made us these adorable pins and artists tags, had a yummy lunch ready for us and helpers posted at the start and finish to get us back and forth with all our goods and display paraphernalia! Those gals sure know how to put on a show!

I was tickled to be stationed right across Susie Scott from SusieScottStudios and couldn't help but snag a few of her sweet faced goodies. She adorns each piece with such a sweet face! They're all so unique and filled with personality.You've got to check out her stuff !

Another beautifully artful soul I was lucky enough to connect with, was Lisa Loria of vintagebling.She had some very, very cool work, but her beautiful Dia De Los Muertos Cross just had to come home with me. Doesn’t it look like it’s always been there? It’s just perfect in my little sacred space. I just love it! Thank you Lisa for parting with it…

Glitterfest is nearly here!!!

In addition to my new Steampunk creations, I've started scuplting these little skulls for my next Milagra gourd doll phase, just in time for Glitterfest Fall and Dia de Los Muertos ! They're a lot of fun and now I want to do more faces. However I can't deny how intimidating sculpting little faces are...

Here's a few pictures of new goodies I've been making for Glitterfest this Saturday Oct. 10th. I've been going a bit crazy with kids school stuff, some home stuff , our new pooch Oliver, and even some creative stuff like my newest aquistition of the tiny frozen Charlottes.

I just love these little dolls and have been so very inspired by them! I certainly have more than I should I suppose, so I might bring a few to share at Glitterfest.

Here's a few little things I just had to put together with my new finds. Check out the beautiful art glass below as well. I had purchased some just like it a long long time ago at a show I was in and hadn't been able to find it since. A few months ago I discovered some art pins on the cover of an old Expressions craft magazine and there it was the beautiful glass I'd been searching for! I contacted Alicia G. Glass (who was a doll on the phone!) and low and behold she sent me a stash! I'm now back to making some fun Halloween pins and will be incorporating the glass into my steampunk line as well. Ciao for now!

My Addiction...

I recently found myself outside a small motel room, waiting for a guy to come out of the room. He had called me earlier in the week and told me he was going to be in town and asked if I needed anything? Of course I didn’t, I never “need” it, I just want it. So I said “sure I could probably use a little.” He gave me the address of the motel where he was staying. We scheduled to meet a few days later. When I found the place and his room, I was thankful the door was open. I was afraid I’d have to knock. He poked his head out of the door and I recognized his familiar face. He asked what I was looking for, I told him that I might as well just see it all. We carefully unloaded each little tray of treasures stacked high in the back of his pick-up. When I finally decided how much I wanted, he took out the tiny scale…after weighing it all I realized that once again here I was, doing exactly what I said I wouldn’t. I was really going to try and be good this summer, not fall back into my old habits. At least it was under a kilo this time. But of course I’d still bought way more than I should. I had to. He showed me things I’d never seen before, beautiful things. My mind and my heart raced with ideas. I knew I’d enjoy it so much…how could I not? Isn’t it pretty?

My last post dealt with the space beneath my feet, as does this one.
We’ve recently taken a few camping trips to some fairly local state beaches; such beautiful places. I love all that the ocean is and am continually thankful I live relatively close to it. I’m astounded by the sounds, smell and feel of water. It’s inspiration at it purest for me. I love it all and I can always find a sense of peace there.

The Wishing Tree

A few weeks ago I read a Post on the Crafty Chica’s blog about a tree she had encountered on a recent trip. Upon this tree hung all sorts knitted pouches tied on with various colored ribbon and fabric. Inside the pouches were tags with quotes and thoughts of visitors who had stopped by. It sounded magical. One of the quotes she was especially taken with was “Let your fiction grow out of the land beneath your feet” by Willa Cather. Lovely isn’t it?

When I read this quote it got me thinking of the space beneath my own feet and the story we write in our own lives. How a tree like this tree could be part of our own family story.
In a remote corner of my yard is a fig tree that I’ve never liked. I didn’t really like where it was planted in the first place, the figs always seemed to be dry and bitter, and all around its base was an overgrown disaster of weeds and out of control Aloe Vera plants. About two weeks before I read this post, I had found a couple of rusted metal lanterns with pink fabric laying in one the vast mystery piles collected in my garage. I almost through out them both out, but for some reason thought of the fig tree, and how these lanterns couldn’t possibly make it look any worse. That evening when we sat outside to dinner, I could see their soft faded pink way up there and I liked it. The next day I wandered up the stairs inspired to pull a few weeds and attempt to tame the aloe. One weed led to another, and as I worked I began to see and a feel a transformation take place as I recognized our wishing tree.

Here are some “before” shots of what the area looked like and a few “after” shots of what it looks like now. I’m not sure if you can tell, but I added some stepping stones up to the tree, a good deal more lanterns, a new more lounge-like chair and few other little things to help draw us to visit what was once an all but abandoned part of our yard.
I thought it might be fun if friends contributed a quote, a wish or prayer for our tree. I’m not sure if I will laminate the tags or not. I like the idea of the tags hanging open to the elements like Tibetan Prayer flags that over the course of time disintegrate letting their prayers be carried along the wind. I’d love to hear your thoughts about this: how do we manage this tension of wanting to preserve things in a beautiful way or appreciating each moment and letting it go. We’ll see. It’s still a work in progress.

Pink Frosting!

Before too much time passes, I wanted to sneak in a little post about Glitterfest! What a wonderful show to be part of! Diane and Sheryl of Whimzy did a fantastic job organizing this glitterfully fun affair and I can’t wait to see what they do for the Fall fest & Halloween! Stay posted at www.vintagewhimzy.com .

As usual I met some fantastic new people; Susie Scott was a neighbor across the way whose art is so sweet and inspiring. Oh those faces, those sweet little faces of hers...you know I’ve got a thing for the cool little faces…and she’s got them! I didn’t get a picture, but she’s got amazing stuff at www.gotart4u.blogspot.com I can already tell she’s one of those special people that just seem to get it. She teaches, creates and inspires, you can see it in her writing and in her eyes.

This was a day was filled with glitter, and laughter and pink, and you know I love pink, but what really makes these days, the best days are the people, the pink is just the frosting.

Delightful!
The Frozen Charlotte class I took with Robin Dudley Howes this past Saturday was “delightful” indeed!
What a talented, wonderful soul she is! While I don’t get a chance to take many classes, I’m so glad I made time for this one! From the moment I sat down in front of my sweet little kit to the unveiling of the coveted Charlottes all lined up in their vials, the class was wonderful. For me Madame Robin was inspiring, spiritual, and oh so patient. I can’t remember how many times I asked the same questions over & over but she never made me feel like a dork. It was also a pleasure to create in such a cool venue with such an eclectic group of creative women. We chatted, shared yummy snacks, and enjoyed the hours as they slipped quietly, too quickly away. I left the day with that dizzy feeling of having too much, too good and wanting to go right home, to keep it going, working with the fresh techniques I couldn’t wait to incorporate into my own designs and ideas. What a gift. Thanks Robin for giving me some great new tools to use in my artistic toolbox! And if any of you ever get a chance, I certainly recommend a class with this talented professor of cool! Check out my “delightful” little lady under glass…

Viva THe GReeN ScenE!

What a wonderful way to spend a weekend. Although it started out a bit frantic, since we had just returned from a few days in the awe-inspiring Sequoias, (which really deserves a post in itself!) and traffic was that typical Friday night California kind we all love… once I actually got there with my stuff, the Fullerton Green Scene was lovely!

The folks that come out for this show are so down to earth, so friendly so fun! I met tons of really cool new customers I hope to see again and of course was inspired by the limitless possibilities of what I could do in my own yard and ODLS. Thank goodness I worked the show alone, so I didn’t get too much time to shop. I did of course frequent my neighbors across the way and discovered some great new herbs, and two gorgeous sweet pea vines for up along the second tier fence(I’m always trying to hide that lovely chain link).While it was a toasty 97+ degrees the people still came, bought some Hawaiian shaved ice and trucked along.

I had a number of Milagra Gourd dolls and came home with only one who I brought back to The Little Dress Shop yesterday along with my other creations. She must be lonely there now, so I’m encouraged to make more for the store and for my next show in Old Town Tustin. I was also excited to be commissioned to create two new Milagras for a couple of cool gals out of town.

So the next show I’m doing is in Tustin on May 16th and it’s called Glitterfest. I’m really excited and honored to be part of this show and one among a large group of very talented artists. I start to freak out and think “what I am doing in this show with all these real artists?” and then I say “hey I was on TV, I did 12 ½ minutes with Carol Duvall ! I’ve been published, I’m ok…right?” The show is sponsored by a very cool store in Old Towne Tustin called Whimzy!. Check it out if you a get a chance. Here’s a few pics of some more new things.

Green Wings!

This Friday I was able to sneak away to the Santa Monica Gem show...overwhelmed once again, but inspired by everything... thankfully I was able to carve out a good chunk of my Saturday out in the yard with the kids and a tray of some new found goodies from the show. Made lots of new stuff and a new friend...check out those beautiful green wings!

While I'm still working on my Milagra Gourd Girls for the Green Scene in April...I'm adding another genre to my little collection of creations. Officially titled "steampunk" this style of jewelry, accessories and clothing is inspired by two very different time periods: the Victorian and industrial age. Usually elements like tiny gears, cogs & clock faces don't seem to go with winged things, nouveau design or crystals, but here they do! There can be elements of fantasy, science or in my mind anything that visually brings interest and beauty to a piece, inspired by a sort of DaVinci meets Mucha feeling, where you would not usually associate flying machinery with sensuous floral curves.

Like most creative journeys these pieces tell a story, some stories evolve from the designer and some from those who interpret the piece. Personally I love all that a deconstructed watch case evokes. The idea of taking time “apart” and putting it back together in a whole new way is powerfully inspiring symbolism. An empty watch case itself provides such a wonderful space for a little story. My love for dioramas and miniatures is perfect for this! Over the years I’ve collected lots of cool little vintage components from everywhere and this is one more way for me to finally use some of my most treasured and often hoarded finds!

Tomorrow, Saturday March 21st is the Spring Craft Boutique in Brea! I'm in the Community Hall space #166 right behind my sweet friend Lisa of Vintage joy Button Designs! A "good time" is sure to be had by all... at least certainly for us since we both think we're pretty funny...but seriously, we'd really like it if you could join us too!

If you can't make it to Brea, I'll also be at the Fullerton Arboretum's Green Scene on April 18th & 19th from 10:00am -4:00pm. This is a really beautiful outdoor show with unique plants and tons of great garden goodies. More on this later, but save the date if you can! See ya!

Milagras & Muses

While I imagine my posts will eventually focus on my artistic endeavors, before I "dive in" I'd like to establish a framework for where these endeavors have come. I'm inspired by color, texture and emotion, by places I've been and those I dream about enjoying. I'm inspired by those I love in my life, my madly creative husband, my rock star kids and my muses, those miracle muses that have always had my back no matter what, my real-life Milagra girls.These are the women of my past and present. These are my tireless cheerleaders, my strongholds of faith and my greatest source of selfish indulgence for which I know, I am so not worthy. So if it is true that a picture is worth a thousand words then I suppose these pictures will tell a little story of their own...
